A major earthquake with a magnitude of 7.2 struck Southern California near the town of Ridgecrest on Thursday, July 4, 2019, at 10:33 pm local time. The earthquake caused widespread damage, including collapsed buildings, broken roadways, and power outages.

According to the United States Geological Survey (USGS), the epicenter of the earthquake was located approximately 11 miles northeast of Ridgecrest in a remote and sparsely populated area. However, the strong shaking was felt throughout Southern California, including in the major cities of Los Angeles, San Diego, and Las Vegas.

There have been reports of multiple injuries as a result of the earthquake. The Kern County Sheriff's Office has confirmed at least two fatalities and several dozen injuries. Rescue workers are currently searching through collapsed buildings and assisting those who have been injured.
